Tuesday

Good Heavens!

It's been waaayyyy too long, eh? We've been doing some of this...

... Would you look at that MESS?! We've switched sewing rooms and, well... it's slow going! We work among the wreckage.

We've been actually working on stuff, too! Check it...

Almost there...

And we've been FINISHING stuff, too!

That particular dress was sold to a friend (shout out to Sabra :)) but this next one is still up for grabs...

Note the rocking frays.

Sooo we've been doing all of that, give us a pat on the back! However, it has slowed down a lot, hence the lack of posts. We've really mostly been doing things involving this:

Hard to resist, I know.

OH! And the article that we talked about (at least, I think we did...?) Anyway, it came out! Those of you in the area, pick up the Spring 2011 Land and Home. And those of you NOT in the area... that sucks, but if you're super nice, I might be convinced to post a copy of it... someday.

So basically, check out our etsy because it has a ton of new things on it, with more coming SOON, and sincere apologies for the, like, two or three week (?!) interval between posts!

*cough cough*

No, no. That wasn't a hint. That was the sickness going around over here.

This is Jess again... you're probably tired of me... two in a row... get over it :)
A and I are both taking online classes for college, since the nearest college is an hour away and we didn't feel like driving that much this semester. A is taking more classes than I am, and has a baby, and therefore has less time to do things like blog than I do... :-D

Just a little update about what's been up here-
I've been sick, so my life has been quite boring BUT I have still been planning things.
Saturday, the day I got sick, we were in the booming metropolis of Santa Fe with a friend, wedding-dress-shopping (YESS. Girl time). We ALSO picked out the fabric for the bridesmaids dresses we're making for said-friend's wedding- and its gah-orgeous.
That's the best picture I could get with my phone :) But really, they're super-pretty and luckily, on sale!

We also visited a new store in the Taos area on Thursday... I think... in which we actually felt "in our element"! It's called Substance, and it's rockin. We're talking Alexander Wang, James Perse, Marc Jacobs, and other such delights. Speaking of, this Saturday (the fifth) we are planning on running around to local stores and "peddling" (or at least that's how it feels) our designs and pieces to the eclectic folks who live around here. Luckily, since we make our clothes out of vintage items and fabrics, we are considered eco-friendly, and New Mexico looooooves its eco-people.
Not gonna lie to you, we weren't going for eco. Not that we don't love the environment... it's been a great place to live and we'd like it to stick around for awhile. But what we were really doing (many moons ago before we started thinking business-wise) was learning to sew and doing it cheap. Now that we are selling the newly reconstructed clothes, we're finding it's cheaper to sell them that way too... so here we are, an eco-friendly company, and probably the only one who did it on accident!

So wish us luck as we talk to business owners on Saturday (we wont mention the accidental-eco if you wont) and as we start making the bridesmaids dresses! Ooo.. speaking of, here's a quick shot of the sketches A did for the dresses...

Let us know what you think, and we'll let you know how Saturday goes!

Friday

AAAAHHHHHH!!!

Excuse me. That came out before I could stop it.

It's Jess!

This week has been kind of crazy... I've been working on a dress...
...but that's not what's been crazy. It's teaching health classes at the middle school around here. I'm a guest speaker for abstinence-based sex ed for 12-year-olds and.. well, it's interesting. Today I didn't teach because I was watching my niece...
... but we had a lot of fun!

Looong ago, I was going to post about how our interview went, I think it went super-well! We interviewed with Land and Home magazine, which supplements to the Sangre de Cristo Chronicle every season. The reporter took pictures of my sewing room (which, I must admit, was a WRECK the night before... I cleaned all night!) and of A and I with some of the crazy things we had found and the cool things we'd made. Our jewelry-extraordinaire-aunt was there too, so we're going to be in a combined article. It'll be amazing. If I can find a link to it when it comes out, I'll be sure to post it.

So basically, sorry for not posting, it's been crazy BUT I'll make a habit out of it (for one thing, like three people read this right now! We need more! ;))

I'll be off after a picture of me with an amazing find on one of our vintage-searching adventures:
yes. Royal blue lace over purple/pink satin. And no hem. yes I say!

Tuesday

Jess 'n' A: Ooh la la

It's A!

Well, we're still waiting to see our article in the local newspaper... If only we could convince locals that a retro maroon/white floral dress is the thing to wear in a foot of snow! If I didn't have to carry a baby, I might be wearing heels right now. See, if the town was filled with impractical people like me our clothes would sell like hotcakes. (What are hotcakes?)

Anyway, one of our friends is getting married in August, so we're making her bridesmaids' dresses in exchange for keeping the dresses when we're done. The designs are rockin! Same color, 5 different designs. So excited! We'll post pictures... as soon as we get the material to start making them.
