Saturday

And the results are...

We got an answer!

A store emailed us back and we'll be meeting with the owner to put some springy things in her store, and hopefully sell out! :) So we're putting together some of our prettiest spring dresses and whatnot to SELL IN A STORE. Less than two months after we started! Sooo we went out and celebrated!

Mind you, we are busy people... so we decided to forgo the makeup... KEEP THAT IN MIND.

A had a peachy-concoction, thanks to the waiter, who had to think up something non-alcoholic due to her baby still being... young... and only drinking milk... you get it.

I had a celebratory strawberry margarita, and I finished half of it ;) Again, NO MAKEUP. Or eyebrow plucking, from the looks of it...

NONETHELESS, we had a fun time with our husbands and the baby, and the drinks even enjoyed one another's company
Be sure to check out A's creepy smile in the background... just kidding, A! You're lovely!! Your smile is stunning :)

So we've been working on other things to get in the store like madwomen- but first, we finished a surprise project for a friend...

She had a lingerie party :)) This was our first attempt at anything... like this... and the material was hard, the ribbon was hard, but we really liked the way it turned out! Victoria better watch out!!... or not.

So for now, we're working on about a million things at once, hoping to have a ton to offer the store we're meeting with. I (Jess) am working on a turquoise jumper-type thing, with white accents, and the rest of the zippers and buttons and tedious things I hate. A is working on a navy/white polka dot dress and a black/white floral skirt. Go, go, go!

Tuesday

BUM BUM BUM!

Intimidating title, right?!

Anyways, you know it's Jessi this time.. how do you know, you ask? Because I always put "anyways."

Anyways ;)

As A said, we went "peddling" in Taos on Saturday, basically to check out which stores might be interested in seeing some of our designs and whatnot. We found several that weren't exactly our style... so we didn't ask them lol. We don't want to sell people things that don't market to their particular audience.

However! We found a few (more than we thought, actually) that were right up our "alley." We only talked to a few because we're shy people - it's true! - but we'll be heading back sometime in the near future to re-peddle. Today I emailed a few of the stores with pictures and whatnot, hoping that they'll LOVE IT and want to see more. And the emails included this address... So store-owners, if you're reading this, THANK YOU for visiting the blog, THANK YOU for reading the email, and THANK YOU for your time :) And also, note my excellent grammar. Thank you again!

So we've been working, since yesterday, on a TOP SECRET design... for a friend ;) Granted, I'm not sure she reads the blog, so it may not matter if I post a picture... but the finished product will make it to the blog eventually. In fact... I should really be working on that right now... hmmm... eh.

As I was rooting through my closet for all the things I've worked on in the past, I found something I'd forgotten all about that I made for A (before she got pregnant. It kind of put a hold on the dress, then I forgot about it lol):
Apologies... the picture was taken with my blackberry... because it's the only thing I can seem to keep track of these days ;) And it doesn't really fit the mannequin, but it's super-cute.
This is the back... haha! This is the part that I forgot the finish. I need to put a zipper in, but I lost my zipper foot and when I bought a new one... well, it doesn't fit. So I'll have to borrow one... Julie! ;)

So I think that's all that has been going on. Boring boring boring.

OH. WAIT.

NOT!!

We made our first sale today! Thank you, Etsy.com and Samantha! We began listing items, taking photos, and looking into business-marketing, etc. in late January, and now, about a month and a half later, we've made a profit! That's exciting news, folks!  So here's to many more sales and lots of money flowing in to make me a millionaire!

SO kidding. I just want to be able to make a living doing what I love! But I AM super excited, it feels like the beginning. I even took a picture of the screen with my phone (but you can't see that).

Thanks for reading, for real you guys! Tell your friends! ;)

*cough cough*

No, no. That wasn't a hint. That was the sickness going around over here.

This is Jess again... you're probably tired of me... two in a row... get over it :)
A and I are both taking online classes for college, since the nearest college is an hour away and we didn't feel like driving that much this semester. A is taking more classes than I am, and has a baby, and therefore has less time to do things like blog than I do... :-D

Just a little update about what's been up here-
I've been sick, so my life has been quite boring BUT I have still been planning things.
Saturday, the day I got sick, we were in the booming metropolis of Santa Fe with a friend, wedding-dress-shopping (YESS. Girl time). We ALSO picked out the fabric for the bridesmaids dresses we're making for said-friend's wedding- and its gah-orgeous.
That's the best picture I could get with my phone :) But really, they're super-pretty and luckily, on sale!

We also visited a new store in the Taos area on Thursday... I think... in which we actually felt "in our element"! It's called Substance, and it's rockin. We're talking Alexander Wang, James Perse, Marc Jacobs, and other such delights. Speaking of, this Saturday (the fifth) we are planning on running around to local stores and "peddling" (or at least that's how it feels) our designs and pieces to the eclectic folks who live around here. Luckily, since we make our clothes out of vintage items and fabrics, we are considered eco-friendly, and New Mexico looooooves its eco-people.
Not gonna lie to you, we weren't going for eco. Not that we don't love the environment... it's been a great place to live and we'd like it to stick around for awhile. But what we were really doing (many moons ago before we started thinking business-wise) was learning to sew and doing it cheap. Now that we are selling the newly reconstructed clothes, we're finding it's cheaper to sell them that way too... so here we are, an eco-friendly company, and probably the only one who did it on accident!

So wish us luck as we talk to business owners on Saturday (we wont mention the accidental-eco if you wont) and as we start making the bridesmaids dresses! Ooo.. speaking of, here's a quick shot of the sketches A did for the dresses...

Let us know what you think, and we'll let you know how Saturday goes!

Friday

AAAAHHHHHH!!!

Excuse me. That came out before I could stop it.

It's Jess!

This week has been kind of crazy... I've been working on a dress...
...but that's not what's been crazy. It's teaching health classes at the middle school around here. I'm a guest speaker for abstinence-based sex ed for 12-year-olds and.. well, it's interesting. Today I didn't teach because I was watching my niece...
... but we had a lot of fun!

Looong ago, I was going to post about how our interview went, I think it went super-well! We interviewed with Land and Home magazine, which supplements to the Sangre de Cristo Chronicle every season. The reporter took pictures of my sewing room (which, I must admit, was a WRECK the night before... I cleaned all night!) and of A and I with some of the crazy things we had found and the cool things we'd made. Our jewelry-extraordinaire-aunt was there too, so we're going to be in a combined article. It'll be amazing. If I can find a link to it when it comes out, I'll be sure to post it.

So basically, sorry for not posting, it's been crazy BUT I'll make a habit out of it (for one thing, like three people read this right now! We need more! ;))

I'll be off after a picture of me with an amazing find on one of our vintage-searching adventures:
yes. Royal blue lace over purple/pink satin. And no hem. yes I say!

Tuesday

Working... Working...

Howdy! It's Jess! (and for the record, I only say "howdy" to people I really like!)

Anyways.

I hope everyone had a rockin' Valentine's Day! I cleaned my house as a gift to my cleaner-than-I-am husband, which gives you a little insight into my real nature... frightening, right? So I did absolutely NO  sewing. I am still trying to finish a dress that needs buttons! So today, I have been working to catch up. Cleaning the house really cramped my style. :)

Doesn't look too hard, right? Ah well, I will post pictures of the finished product when I finally get 'em done! ;)

As for now, here's a picture of a finished piece...

Vintage lace vest, made from a horrendous lace dress/jacket... thing. It's on Etsy! Only $15, soooo worth it :) Look us up on facebook- also worth it!

If there's anything else you'd like to see on here, let me know!
